What is an Advance Directive?

A written statement of a person’s wishes regarding medical treatment, often including a living will, made to ensure those wishes are carried out should the person be unable to communicate them to a doctor.

Presenters: Rachel Rutledge B.A, MS. & Shirley Williams, RN, B.S, M.N.

Rachel Rutledge has professional and personal experience in hospice and palliative
care. More recently, involved in research projects concerning communication skills for
professionals at University of Washington.

Shirley Williams had a 40yr career working with persons facing terminal illnesses as a
nurse and patient advocate. She has given many seminars on Advanced Directives.
