Ann Bambrick’s Experience

The Schuberts’ Story

A senior couple poses for a portrait with trees in the backgroundThanks to you, terminally ill friends and neighbors in our community were not alone when they needed end-of-life care. Your contributions to the Hospice Foundation enabled the hospice team and volunteers at Jefferson Healthcare to provide compassionate medical care plus an array of specialty services to help their patients live each day as fully as possible. One of them was Fred Schubert:

“When I drove up my long country driveway, it brought me back to this same month last year when my husband Fred’s hospice team had just begun making their scheduled drives up this gravelly stretch. His incredible nurse, bath aide, social worker and chaplain filled our home with gentle warmth, loving care and practical guidance. When I add to this list his massage therapist and hospice volunteer, it serves as a testament as to why we both came to believe they were the reason he lived considerably longer than expected. This team, which occasionally included others, continued to serve us with the excellency of each individual’s skills, accompanying us all the way with shared laughter, fine-tuned listening and compassionate time for tears. And at last, when it was time to bid Fred that final earthly goodbye, it was ever so much easier with us both knowing that not only were his last months of life made easier, but ever so much richer with us both having been the recipients of this care.”
